I get this question all the time from my mom friends.
Let me start out by saying that I rarely get my own hair cut. I got it cut over a month ago and the last time I had cut it before that was a year prior. It’s not on my priority list, really!
I used to cut my own hair all the time. When the layered, choppy bangs were in about 10 years ago, I learned how to do it with a razor on the tips and just did it myself. I also learned how to snip all of the rest of my hair. This made it an easy no-brainer decision for me to just cut my own daughter’s hair.
Girl hair is EASY! *Especially* when your daughter wants super long hair (just a trim, please!) and simple bangs. Easy peasy and takes around 2 minutes.
Now it took me YEARS to get comfortable with the thought of cutting the boys’ hair. My husband used to ask me to trim the back of his neck and occasionally the hair behind his ears. I would do it, but I’d do it “too hard” and he’d get upset.
One day he was so sick and tired of his hair being long and begged me to do his hair for him. We actually borrowed a trimmer from my mom’s husband and I cut his hair. It wasn’t so bad!!! It was messy, but much cheaper than $15+ every 4-6 weeks!!! After I had done this about 3 times, I decided to start cutting my son’s hair. He went from trimmed baby hair to really buzzed boy hair. Awwww. <3
I can’t imagine how much money we have saved! Tons! We never go to get a hair cut unless it’s free with a coupon or mystery shop now. 🙂 (That’s how I got mine cut a few weeks ago!)
What about you? Are you brave? Do you cut your family’s hair? What about your own?

We used to just skip hair cuts. My own hair is past my knees. After we moved to our new town, we found a beautician that will do all three of my girls for about $25.00. I forget how much she charges my husband, but it’s not much. The girls love getting to go to the beauty shop now.

My mom and I cut each other’s hair (we’re both in the just-a-trim-please camp) but she cuts her own bangs. Hubby used to have hair longer than mine which he went to a barber for, but one day he brought me the scissors and said “chop it off!” LOL I think I was more upset than he was. Now our neighbor keeps him and half the neighborhood peeled for free, thankfully (except for the mohawk he’s decided to work on now… oy!)
