FREE Fun in #DFW – Carrollton

One thing I really love about living in the metroplex is that there is an abundance of free entertainment available for all to enjoy.  The town I moved from had very little besides parks or the library… and obviously the city and county’s budget for those were not wasted on kid or family friendliness at all!  Around here, it seems that every little detail has been thought out and accounted for and we have such a great time on a budget.  My kids don’t even realize that most of what we do is free – they just know that they are having a blast! I wanted to share 2 free places for kids and families to play in Carrollton, Texas.  Carrollton is just north of Dallas and a quick trip from many north Dallas locations.  There are 2 fun places here that I feel are worth the drive.

W.J. Thomas Splash Park
1955 N. Perry Road Carrollton, TX 75006

This splash park is awesome!  There are plenty of fun water features that it can accommodate a large number of people comfortably.  This location is open from 9am-8pm, so it’s available for use during less common times, making it easy to beat the crowds if wanted.
We have shown up at various times and have never felt that it was too busy to stay.  There are TONS of picnic tables, almost all of them covered, and it is adjacent to a small playground as well.  They are currently building bathrooms and they should be open soon.  So far this summer, each time we have gone, some independent ice cream man (or men!  sometimes more than one!) has been around, so bring some cash if you think you might want a snack… or better yet, pack your own!  We have enjoyed many picnic lunches out there!  There are grills available and plenty of trashcans.
Don’t forget your towel and some sunscreen!
Indoor Play Area @ Covenant Church Carrollton

2660 E. Trinity Mills Rd Carrollton, TX 75006 (Located in The Life Center building)

Soft play area for your littlest explorer

This play area is SO much fun for kids!  It’s a hidden gym in Carrollton and it just opened Easter weekend 2012.  To get there, park in front of The Life Center (the side facing Trinity Mills) and enter in those doors.  Once inside, go to the left through The Cafe toward the back and through the big double doors.  (You can always ask someone if you’re not sure where to go!)
Once inside, there is a restroom available, a few picnic tables, and tons of fun for the kids!

Right next to that is this huge play area for bigger kids!  There’s a basketball court in there for littles, too!
There are even action-activated video games the kids can interact with, as well as a basketball court, the huge play structure, soft play area for little kids, and some little play stations where the kids can strap on hard hats to be a construction worker or aprons to be a great chef!  There’s even a Lego table.
Plenty of opportunities for imaginative play, as well.

I believe this play area is open whenever The Life Center building is open and OF COURSE children must be supervised in order to play. You can even support their cafe while you are there and purchase a coffee, pastry, sandwich, or fruit while you hang out with the kiddos. You can also bring your own food and snacks as well, but please clean up after yourself!

Lego table, construction zone, and more.
I hope you’ve enjoyed hearing about a few of our favorite places in the area.  FREE fun is my favorite!
