Last weekend was cold and windy, but that didn’t stop 54 troops of North Fort Worth and Keller area Girl Scouts from coming together on April 5th, 2014 at Cinemark Alliance in Fort Worth for a special screening of the new movie, Rio 2. This location was one of handful nationwide celebrating Rio 2 with themed festivities.
Three hundred local Girl Scouts came together to fly rainforest kites, learn about the World Cup in Rio, to create works of art with sidewalk chalk, and to make large rainforest posters. Afterward, they got to see the new film from 20th Century FOX, Rio 2, the weekend before its official release, and earn an official Rio 2 Girl Scout Badge!
*My family was invited to attend the event and screening, and they enjoyed watching all of the Girl Scouts and got to join in the fun as well.
As the girls built their kites, it was fun to watch them learn and bond with the others in their troop.
It’s amazing what these Girl Scouts were able to do with a simple kite and instruction sheet.
The sky was dotted with dozens of beautiful birds, and the wind was just perfect for enjoying the kites for well over an hour!
Parents and leaders got involved, too, and (looking back) watching the kites soar in the sky really did remind me of a few scenes in the new Rio 2 movie where Blu and Jewel got to fly freely with long lost family and friends in the sky above the rain forest.
The troops had a fun time using sidewalk chalk to show off some beautiful rainforest scenes and to make fun drawings of characters from Rio 2, as well.
I was blown away by their talent!
I know these Girl Scouts loved the activities and were buzzing with excitement after seeing the special screening of Rio 2!
Rio 2 Is In Theaters NOW!
Today, April 11, 2014, is the official release date for Rio 2! I loved it, and I have to say that it just might have been even better than the original!
It’s a jungle out there for Blu, Jewel and their three kids in RIO 2, after they’re hurtled from that magical city to the wilds of the Amazon. As Blu tries to fit in, he goes beak-to-beak with the vengeful Nigel, and meets the most fearsome adversary of all – his father-in-law. All our favorite RIO characters are back, and they’re joined by Oscar® nominee Andy Garcia, Grammy® winner Bruno Mars, Tony® winner Kristin Chenoweth and Oscar/Emmy®/Tony winner Rita Moreno. RIO 2 also features new Brazilian artists and original music by Janelle Monae and Wondaland.
Run to your theater and watch it! Oh, and don’t forget to take the kids. 😉
