Well, our Christmas celebrations are finally coming to a close! We’ve had 4 different celebrations, full of presents and goodies.
The first one was on Christmas Eve when we got together with the kids’ NaNa and PaPa (my dad). We had a feast of tamales, mini tacos, poppyseed kolaches (from Czech Stop! YUM), and more. My kids were thrilled to open and give gifts. They almost felt like they were cheating a little bit since it wasn’t technically Christmas yet. They loved that! Such rule-breakers. 🙂
Our next celebration was at our house on Christmas morning. The kids each got 2 presents. I went off of their wish lists that they’d made last month. While they may have only gotten two gifts, each gift was quite expensive! That is, except for Charlie’s presents. He doesn’t really care about WHAT he gets, just as long as he gets lots of presents. I snuck in some quantity gifts for him like a superhero gift set that had 3 action figures and a package of balls that contained 5 of them. This pleased him and was cheap, too!
Next, we went to my in-laws’ house for Christmas dinner. It was actually at 4PM, but close enough. Grandma and Grandpa had a full traditional Christmas food spread with turkey, ham, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, green beans, and more. Hubby’s sister even brought a cheesecake she had made, and we took pumpkin and pecan pies. The kids each got some things from their wishlists and had fun playing with the toys before we headed home.
Right now, I’ve got my mom and her hubby and my grandma here for our final celebration! They came to stay 2 nights and we did our Christmas exchange last night. The kids were so excited for their presents and haven’t stopped talking about them since. Two adorable little boys haven’t quit bugging me about wanting to take some of their holiday cash to the store to buy more video games. It’s like they didn’t JUST get a ton! 😉
The kids are done with their first full week of Christmas break from school. I’m glad we just took all of the time off, because they are having a blast. It’s been fun being able to have screen time during the week. Fun for them, at least. It’s been driving me bonkers because I hate that they just get SO glued and obsessive about them, but I remind myself that we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled programming in the new year. 😉 I don’t have time to get high strung about a couple of weeks of pure vegging and mindless gaming. Right? Right.
I hope you and your family have had a great holiday break! I know we have! Heck, I’ve even broken out the gingerbread house kit and a DIY ornament kids. Yes, my kids have had crafting time. You know it’s a special occasion when that happens. 🙂
Have a great rest of 2014!! Happy 2015 and best wishes for an amazing new year.
