A while back, I had the chance to test drive the 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer GT for a week. I was excited to try out a sporty 4-door sedan and to see how it handled on the road.
To start, I loved the sleek look of the Mitsubishi Lancer. The spoiler on the back and the smooth, clean lines on the body of the vehicle immediately made me think of a little (practical) sports car. My husband noticed, too, and he looked even more anxious to try this baby out than me!
I let my husband borrow the Lancer to use while carpooling to work. He loved that it featured a CVT transmission (which I had to look up to understand, by the way). To those of us that don’t know, this means that you can essential use it as a manual and automatic vehicle. Using it this way increases the fuel economy of the car and can make it a much smoother ride.
He said it was really easy to use, he liked the position of the gear shifters, and he liked that he had more control over the acceleration of the vehicle and the pace it moved around. I personally never used the feature because I have no idea how or when to shift my own gears and prefer to just use it in the automatic mode, which is also really simple to operate on the Lancer. 🙂 He loved the option, though, so I wanted to mention it. That was a HUGE plus in his mind!
Oh, speaking of my husband hijacking my test drive week, did I mention that he stuffed 5 adult men into this car during lunch twice the week that we had it? I really wish he would take pictures when he does fun things like that, but he doesn’t. I think any vehicle that can comfortably fit 5 adult men should get some sort of award. Looks are deceiving – the interior of this is surprisingly roomy!
I loved the safety features, including the backup camera. In our neighborhood, that’s essential because kids are always out and playing and can be difficult to see. It’s also handy because we always park in our garage, so the kids or dog-walkers in our neighborhood might not be expecting us to pull out. This way, I’m notified and can keep us ALL safer! (Side note: Another safety feature I love about this vehicle is the 7 Airbag Safety System.)
The fuel economy on this car is what kind of grabbed my attention. For me cruising around town, I could get up to 26 MPG. Hubby drives on the highway to and from work, so he was getting up to 34 MPG. This, my friends, is why it pays to have a sedan even when you have a large family. One vehicle to get the bread winner to/from work and another for the whole family. It works great for us, because using the car only for commuting and small errands and such on the weekends is so much cheaper, especially over the long run, over trying to make sure all vehicles fit all the people. Of course, people with “normal” sized families would easily fit in this 5-seater Mitsubishi Lancer GT with no problem at all, even with a carseat or two strapped in the back!
Oh, another thing. I took the Lancer with me on a grocery shopping trip that turned into a huge gardening adventure. I got a lot of things to plant in our flower bed and cringed a little when I remembered I had driven to the store in the Lancer and not our usual mama wagon (minivan). However, I was VERY pleasantly surprised when I saw just how crazy big the storage space was in the trunk.
I really enjoyed driving the 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer GT. The sporty look, great gas mileage, and smooth ride won me over. My husband asked me a lot of questions about it, including price and features available, so I know that he was really fond of this as well!
If you’re in the market for a fun to drive and very affordable sedan, be sure to check out the Mitsubishi Lancer.

Car manufacturers install warning signs that tell us when our vehicles are in need of maintenance. One of these signs is the check engine light on the dashboard. None of these dashboard lights should ever be ignored. While most of the time it is true that the problem can be remedied quickly and without a large loss of money, there are some instances that can be a huge problem. Whatever the case may be, it is always wise to get the dashboard light checked out.
