The Briefcase
Imagine what you would do if someone showed up to your doorstep and presented you with a suitcase with $101,000 inside. If you’re like most middle class families, this would probably be a dream come true and you would already have a plan in place on how this sum of money could be spent to totally turn your life around.
What if there was a twist? You could either keep all of the money, some of the money, or none of the money. You could instead choose to gift all or part of it to another family. You wouldn’t initially know a lot about the family, but over a short period of just 72 hours, you would learn more about them and see that they, too, are deserving of a little bit of help.
Wouldn’t that complicate things a little bit? It goes further. There’s another twist. That family was also presented with a suitcase with $101,000 in it. They also have to make the same exact situation. The big twist here is that neither family knows until the decision has been made and you are meeting the other family face to face to present them with all – or none – of their cash.
Doesn’t this sound like an incredible show? There is a brand new reality event premiering tonight, and that’s exactly how this goes down.
My Thoughts
I was given the opportunity to take a sneak peek at the first episode, which features the Bergin and Bronson families. I was biting my nails throughout, trying to decide how they were going to split the money or if they were going to just keep it all or give it all away.
As I was watching, I seriously kept saying to my husband, “I just love this show! I love so many twists and turns, but it still makes you feel good to watch.” Part of what made it so special was that they took a deep look into each family’s life and didn’t hold back. They even went so far as to say exactly how much each couple makes per year and how much debt they have. The couples even got to take a trip to the other family’s home to get a glimpse of what the other family was going through on a daily basis.
I loved that each couple had to make a decision together. This couldn’t be an easy decision for either couple. I can’t wait to see the rest of the season!
Dave Broome
It should come as no surprise that this unique show comes from Dave Broome, CEO/Executive Producer, 25/7 Productions. In 2004, Broome created NBC’s longstanding hit, The Biggest Loser. Broome is a hands on producer who loves to create & develop projects that he is passionate about and that can make an impact in a profound and thought-provoking way.
Over the last 15 years, Broome has created and produced hundreds of hours of primetime network and cable series, including competition formats, docu-series, music specials, award shows and live television events for networks such as NBC, ABC, FOX, CBS, CW, MTV, SPIKE, A&E, DISCOVERY, TURNER, LIFETIME, ABC Family, and many more.
By the way, if you’re like me, my first question after watching the show was how they would be able to pull off a second, third, or even fourth season now that people will kind of know how things work. Here is what Dave had to say about that:
“I’ve been asked the question before and we’ve been selling the format around the world . I not only have a 2nd season but I also have a third and a fourth and the only way that I could actually get the first season on the air was to pitch CBS the different versions in season two, season three and season four. So anyone who watches the show in its first season one and we hope everybody will, they will not know what to expect in season two. The show and the core in the show which is the values in your life and what matters most in your life, that never changes. But there are changes in the way that the show will get done in season two but if you make decisions based on what you saw in season one, then you’re going to be out of luck. There are multiple seasons set up.”
I’m excited to hear this, because I truly enjoyed watching the first episode and will be tuning in for more.
