“I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for the Cigna Foundation, in partnership with Samahope. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.”
Does your family do charitable giving every year? Maybe you are teaching your children that it is better to give than to receive. I recently found out about an organization that helps to fund important, life-saving surgeries and medical care to communities in desperate need.
Childbirth is very dangerous in many parts of the world. For many, there is no access to trained birth attendants. Sterile equipment, even clean gloves, can be nearly impossible to access.
With my 5 births, we had excellent medical care. I used midwives for 4 of my pregnancies, and midwives helped me to deliver 3 of my babies. For each birth, I had access to life-saving drugs that helped me to stop hemorrhaging. I’m quite thankful that it was so easy for me. My life was very clearly saved with at least one of those births, and my babies were able to be quickly delivered and suctioned when they passed a bowel movement coming out.
It isn’t so easy for families everywhere. In fact, clean, running water is scarce in many places. I’ve often wondered if there was something more I could do to help ensure that moms and babies were kept safe during such an important time. Life is so fragile, especially during those first few movements.
Samahope and the Cigna Foundation
Samahope is an organization that helps to directly fund medical treatments for women and children in need through donations. They crowdfund treatments for blindness, burns, birth injury, and more. Anyone anywhere can pitch in to help others less fortunate than themselves. 100% of donations go toward providing this care.
Currently, Samahope is helping to fund doctors and train local nurses to provide surgery and other treatments in India through this year’s Cigna Foundation World of Difference grant. In case you haven’t heard of Cigna Foundation, they support nonprofit organizations that enhance the health of communities through grants. They focus on assisting folks to overcome barriers to their well-being and health due to age, gender, economics, geography, or ethnicity.
10,000 Lives Campaign
Samahope wants to help protect the lives of children and women in need. They have a goal of funding birth kits for 5,000 babies and 5,000 moms to save a total of 10,000 lived. They’re half way there already and could definitely use donations to get the rest of the way to that goal!
Did you know that every two minutes, a woman dies from causes related to pregnancy and birth – causes that were preventable?
Just $5 is enough to fund a birth kit to prove a safe birth and protect two lives (the mother and the baby). These kits include sterile toos so that skilled birth attendants can protect both the mother and her baby from life-threatening complications during childbirth.
You Can Help
Are you interested in saving lives with just $5? You can donate here and do just that. In fact, you are able donate more, or even set up a recurring donation. Each donation is tax deductible.
You can see a picture of the birth kit at that link. You’ll easily recognize the contents as items that are readily available her in the United States. It is astonishing how something so simple can save so many lives, especially considering how hard it would be for these communities to access them without the help of Samahope and the donations of people just like you and me.
You can keep up with Samahope on Facebook and Twitter. Cigna also has a Facebook and Twitter to check out. I hope you’ll consider making a donation! If you do, be sure to tweet it out to announce it to the world, and you can even use the hashtag #GiveHopeWithCigna.
