I’m welcoming a guest blogger today! If you’ve been looking for a fun activity to do with your family to save some cash this year, check out the penny challenge like Cinella is doing with her girls. It would be a concrete way to teach about saving money.
For the past few months our daughter has been hassling us about giving her an allowance. She’s 11 years old and is the oldest of three girls that we have. Ever since our second daughter was born she has been so helpful and now that the “baby” is nearing four years old she helps with getting her dressed and sometimes taking her to the potty.
“It’s time.” I said to my husband. We just looked at each other and sighed. We visited our local dollar store and they had some very simple chore charts but we didn’t really like any of them. We thought we might just make our own. But then I was looking for ideas on different ways to save money and I came across so many “Saving Challenges” Then I found one that could possibly be used instead of an allowance.
THE PENNY CHALLENGE!
It is so easy and I think it’s the perfect incentive for her to do her chores and receive her PENNIES at the end of the day. She has had the same chores for a while and we talked about adding a few more. We were talking about what she wanted to save for and she really didn’t have anything specific, except wanting to buy herself a Christmas gift, which we agreed to. So we have pushed the “Allowance” talk back at least another year, but we are all happy with “The Penny Challenge!”
Join us in the Penny Challenge! It’s simple… First grab something to keep your PENNIES in. Then you put in a PENNY in the jar adding another penny for each day. For example. Today is the 8th of January, so you would add $.08 = 8 PENNIES to your jar! On the last day of the year you would add 366 pennies =$3.66! Now take a guess as to how much you will have by the last day of the year!
Need some jar-spirations? I made one for each of our girls. We just grabbed things around the house, stickers and buttons and used some hot-glue to keep it in place and I think they came out great! What do you think? This can be a great project for the whole family and then share the money at the end of the year! Or you can even make one for yourself to buy yourself a treat or maybe buy a few extra gifts to donate during the holidays!
Have you tried any challenges like this in the past? Share them down below!
